Professor John Wiseman (Project Leader)
Institute for Community Engagement and Policy Alternatives
Victoria University (ICEPA).
John Wiseman is Professor of Public Policy with ICEPA. Between 2000 and 2002 he was Assistant Director, Policy Development and Research in the Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet. He is author of numerous publications on social policy and public policy issues. John's research interests include politics and policy after neoliberalism; the impact and implications of globalisation; the possibilities and limitations of community strengthening and community engagement strategies; and, the role of universities in community and regional engagement and development.
Hayden Raysmith
Adjunct Professor, Faculty of Built Environment
RMIT University.
Hayden Raysmith is a partner in the social policy consulting company WWW Communications and since 1998, and is Adjunct Professor at RMIT University in the Faculty of Constructed Environment. In 2000, Hayden was appointed chair of the combined Social Science and Planning School course advisory committee for the Faculty. In recent years, Hayden has specialised in work relating to Local Government, service planning, governance and community development.
Hayden has occupied key positions with the Victorian government including the role of Director of Youth Affairs followed by five years in the role of Director of Public Health. Previous to this, Hayden was the Executive Director of the Victorian Council of Social Service and was instrumental in the establishment of the Victorian Community Foundation and R.E Ross House.
Hayden continues to publish widely on social policy issues and is engaged as advisor and associate with a range of government, community and philanthropic organisations and projects.
Neil McLean
Assistant Director
Economic, Social and State Statistics Unit
Australian Bureau of Statistics
Neil has a working career in the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS)spanning some 25 years. During that time he has contributed to a diversity of ABS work, including development of social indicators for Victoria and the formation of an Australia-wide statistical education programme for schools and post-secondary education.
Neil's work has involved a wide range of special project and service work for Victorian and local government organisations. While outposted by ABS at the
Department of Premier and Cabinet, 2001-04, he was closely involved in the data development arrangements for the Growing Victoria Together (GVT) framework. He is committed to the ongoing growth of data exchange
agreements and related steps in Victoria. As part of the Victorian Community Indicators Project (VCIP), such improved data flows have the potential to assist in strengthening better understanding and actual development of community well-being across the State.
Professor Mike Salvaris
Institute of Community Engagement and Policy Alternatives
Victoria University
Mike Salvaris is a consultant and academic with over 30 years experience in social policy and research with government and community organisations, at the international, national, state and local community levels. He is currently attached to the Institute for Community Engagement and Policy Alternatives at Victoria University, Footscray.
As a lawyer and community activist, Mike was co-founder of of the Victorian Tenants Union and the Fitzroy Legal Service. Mike has held various advisory roles to the Victorian State Government and was Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Social Research at Swinburne. Mike's chief research interests are human rights, democracy and citizenship, with a specialised focus on defining and measuring progress and well-being as a tool for empowerment and community development in local governance.

Anne Langworthy
Director, Centre for Regional Development
Swinburne University
Prior to her appointment as Director of the Centre for Regional Development, Anne worked as a regional development consultant in the Eastern Region of Melbourne for over fifteen years, including a period heading the Regional Economic Development Organization for Melbourne’s East.
Establishing the Centre for Regional Development over four years ago, Anne has developed a wide range of collaborative partnerships between the university and key regional stakeholders, local government, business and community organizations and fostered work related student projects in the community. She has led the regional campus interest in university–community engagement and participated in statewide and national research into the role of universities in regions and with communities. Her research and development focus has also included other issues related to regional development in particular sustainability and indicators of community sustainability.

Joanne Pyke

Joanne is the researcher for the VCI project and is currently a Phd candidate with the School of Applied Economics at Victoria University. Previously, Joanne was General Manager of the Equity Research Centre, an advisory body to the Victorian Government on access and equity in the vocational education and training system. Joanne has acted as research consultant to a range of organisations in industry, higher education and the community sectors and her main research interests are around diversity management, gender equity, work and wellbeing.
